There is very little difference between a hot tub and a spa; they are basically the same thing although they do have different origins. A hot tub spa in Cape Coral, FL was traditionally a wooden tub; usually cedar, that held enough water for more than one occupant. From the early days of hot tub development, the water was always heated but originally they were not fitted with jets that offered the user a therapeutic massage. As time went by a these tubs began appearing in different materials such as fiberglass, the manufacturers began to call them spas simply as a way of differentiating materials. Today, although this name differentiation continues; they both offer almost the same amenities and the terms can be used interchangeably.

The original difference between a hot tub and a spa was simply the material, one being wood and the other plastic or fiberglass. It did not take long however, for design features to come along that did differentiate the types. A more modern hot tub spa in Cape Coral FL became available with built in seats, a feature not enjoyed by the original wooden tubs. A major change was the introduction of high pressure jets that shot water at the occupants thus creating an action similar to a massage. Improved filters soon appeared, making pool maintenance much easier and kept the water in optimum condition for a longer period of time. It did not take long however for the manufacturers of wooden hot tubs to begin adding these and other features to their products.

One of the main differences that may always differentiate one from the other is the shape. A wooden hot tub is almost always round; whereas a fiberglass spa, by virtue of the material can be in any shape but the most popular is square. Fiberglass can be molded in any shape resulting in comfortable built in seats which have the jets placed strategically in them. A spa often is fitted with a light in the bottom so that it can be used after hours. As wood is a more difficult material to work with and shape, a hot tub is less likely to have well designed ergonomically shaped seats.
