Ever since the dawn of mankind; this old saying that has certainly been a truism. Some of our ancestors were lucky enough to be close to natural caves but others had to “discover” ways of protecting their heads from the elements. Somehow, we did not evolve into a sort of burrowing ape that dug its own nests under the ground; instead, we invented the skills required for building and construction.

If It’s Not There Naturally Then You Have To Build It

A tree can make a reasonable temporary shelter from rain or snow but winds get underneath it and the branches, twigs and leaves rarely make a totally water proof canopy – ask anyone who has sheltered under a tree how long it was before they started to get wet? But, our ever inventive ancestors got the message. Cut down the tree and use its parts to erect vertical or slightly inclined posts sunk into the ground so as to enclose a small area. Then fill the gaps between the posts with “panels” made from big leaves (if palm type trees with fronds are present); grasses woven together; or even turfs or plain mud. Anything that would keep the winds out could be used just so long as it was available close by. Having invented “walls”, something was then needed to cover up the top; initially, this was probably not much more than a wall “panel” laid horizontally across the shelter and, maybe, covered with sods of grass – the roof had been invented!

Something like this could have been built with very primitive tools but, to improve on it – using stone walls or animal skins to enclose the space between wood poles would have required more specialised tools which only came later. But, once these tools arrived, the ancient homes began to acquire greater size, strength and permanency; until they evolved into the typical home of today.

Four Walls And A Roof

Just about no one in Greeley CO builds their main home with just one room and people do not like their multi-room homes to be likened to square boxes; so, today’s home probably has more than 4 walls but, regardless, it will have a roof. This means that, so long as people live in houses, they will always need Roofing In Greeley CO.
